Sedu SU-150A Ionic Ceramic Pro Flat Iron Review
December 20, 2015
I have a lot of issues with having long hair and it being naturally curly. Not everyone wakes up with perfectly gorgeous hair. Most of the time, people will spend hours setting their hair to get that signature look. One of the most important tools to have in your arsenal of hair tools, is a flat iron. I have used plenty of flat irons and was recommended to try a Sedu product by my stylist. I decided to go ahead and try out the Sedu SU-150A Ionic Ceramic Pro Flat Iron. Now Sedu has been a great brand for a long time and have literally worked their way to the top. They believe in their reputation. The boast of being an innovated, durable, and reliable product maker and if you are wanting a great product, that is a bit on the expensive side, then this is for you.
The Sedu SU-150A has a 1.5 inch ceramic plate that is supposed to be ion charged, which means smoother hair, and not as much damage. I have a lot of issues with finding a great hair straightener that will smooth, as well as create plenty of shine without damaging my hair. This flat iron does what it is supposed to. The fact is that it uses tourmaline technology, so it is safer for even the most color treated and damaged hair. It tends to generate more negative ions that have been known to knock down frizz and making hair softer, shinier, and silkier. It’s also able to adjust the heat from 235 degrees to 410 degrees. Plus, it happens to be lightweight, so you don’t have to worry about your arm getting tired of holding it after 5 minutes.
The way that this flat iron is made, actually causes less damage, and it isn’t supposed to pull your hair as you are straightening. If you are like me and have longer hair, then you may get your hair pulled quite often, this is due to the plates not having any springs in them, to cushion your hair as it slides across the plates. This can cause some damage from pulling. The cord tends to get tangled easily and once the flat iron is heated, the whole exterior is super hot, so I wasn’t able to distribute the heat evenly to my hair. Let’s talk about the Pro’s and Con’s.
- Heats quickly
- Eliminates frizz
- Causes silky, shiny, and smooth hair
- Doesn’t cause damage
- Way too hot to touch
- No springs under the plates
- Pretty high price
- Plenty of issues with the cord
Although, it does what it is supposed to, the Sedu SU-150A is over priced, and can easily be compared to Hot Tools, Conair, etc. Even though it works great, it tends to pull hair and it gets way too hot to even touch. The handle can get a bit hot as well. It just really isn’t worth the $120 price tag.
Tips For Straightening Naturally Curly Hair
December 20, 2015
So, those with curly hair, wish they had straight hair and those with straight hair wish their hair was curly. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess. I have naturally curly hair and sometimes I just hate it. Sometimes I have no clue what to do with it and sometimes I just embrace it.
Most of the time I like to wear it straight or somewhat wavy, but of course it takes time and energy for me to get it that way. I am going to share a few tips with you that I use for dealing with my curly hair…
After I take a shower, I like to let my hair air dry for about an hour before I begin styling it. This really helps to cut down drying time, which is not healthy for your hair. If you really want to keep your hair looking healthy, shiny and vibrant, you really want to cut down on the amount of heat that you use to style it (this includes the hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron). The less heat you use, the better for your hair.
So, once I let my hair air dry for about an hour, I then use my Solia hair dryer which I just love. I use my big round brush and brush it out as I dry it. This helps to straighten my hair and cuts down on the frizz that can sometimes happen with a powerful hair dryer. Once I get it fairly dry, I then switch to one of my flat irons. (You can see my choice for the Best Flat Irons here).
I am always careful to not use the flat iron too much because out of all the haircare tools, the flat iron can cause the most damage if used too frequently. So I use the flat iron to finish straightening the outer layers that are most visible. At this point, I either go for the straight look or I use the flat iron like a curling iron to go for a more wavy look.
That’s really all that I do! Some people like to use heat protectants or relaxers, but I am not a big fan of those products and I find that this process works great for my hair. Remember: The less heat that you use, the better!
Straightening tips for the back of your hair
December 18, 2015
No matter how much you spend on styling products or how well you use them, there’s one spot where most of us just can’t get it straight – the back of the head. There are always a few lumps and curls that stick out and this is endlessly frustrating. It’s never going to be easy to straighten the back of your head, but here are some techniques that can really help.Straightening
Before you start working on the back, make sure that your hair is completely dry. This is tough to do when you’re dealing with the back of your head and it’s easy to miss a bit that’s still wet. Brush your hair in layers as you blow dry and make sure you get it all. Any spot of moisture is going to frizz up.
You’ll need to set up mirrors well. Use two mirrors – one in front and the other in back, reflecting the back of your head. Move your mirrors around until you can see everything clearly.
Work in Layers
The way to straighten the hair back there is to do one layer at a time, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Start by scraping a horizontal line near the nape of your neck. Tie up all the hair except for that bottom layer and secure it well.
Straighten just that bottom layer, and then move up to the next one. Work your way up from one layer to the next until you’ve got it all straightened. As you work your way up to the top layer, make sure you check each layer to see if it’s straightened before starting on the next one.
Tips on Straightening Your Hair
If you’re having trouble straightening your hair, what might help is to switch it up a little. Try a different approach and it might produce better results. For example, if you usually use horizontal slices, try going vertically. Sometimes what works for the other areas of your hair just doesn’t work on the back because your hair grows a little differently.
Make sure when you’re straightening that you’re getting as close to your scalp as possible. This is especially hard to do when you’re working on the back with mirrors. When you don’t get close enough, that’s when you get those lumps sticking out.
You should be extra careful because even though you want to be close, you don’t want to burn yourself! If you’re nervous about it and you’ve got a straightener with temperature control, you might turn it down while you’re working back there. If you have this problem when using a flat iron, my recommendation for the best flat iron would be the Sedu flat iron because it has a variable temperature option as well as “micro smooth” plates which will make it easier to pull the iron through the hair in the harder to reach areas.
It also might help to try out some new products that might keep your hair under control better. Try something that’s especially designed to cut down on frizz.
Straightening the back of your hair perfectly can be done and you don’t always need to get your sister to do it for you. It’s just a technique that’s a little challenging and takes some extra practice.
HSI Professional Ionic Flat Iron Hair Straightener Review
December 18, 2015
Before we really begin talking about this great straightener, you need to know that ionic is what the hair style industry refers to as negative ions. The ions in your hair are either positive or negatively charged with electricity, which is similar to magnets. Your damaged hair is positively charged and this straightener has negative ions, this means that your hair won’t be damaged, it will smooth it, reduce frizz, and get rid of static electricity.
Most of your average flat irons are made from titanium or aluminum that is coated in ceramic and has then been baked. This straightener is made of pure ceramic, there aren’t any hidden metals at all. Although, because it is pure ceramic, it can be pretty expensive to buy, but why worry about price when you will have amazing quality. The HSI professional flat iron has a high price because it is actually reinforced with tourmaline in order to give it more infrared and titanium.
So what do you get when you purchase the HSI Professional Hair Straightener? When you purchase it, it will come with a free glove and pouch, which is great as well as a travel size Argan Oil Leave In Hair Treatment. The floating plates will literally adjust to any type of hair, which is great as there isn’t any pulling, and what is even better is you can actually use this straightener to curl or flip your hair into any style.
It does get pretty hot with a heat capacity of 140°F to 450°F. That is pretty toasty, but the heat is distributed evenly so there isn’t any issues. Also it doesn’t take very long for the straightener to heat up. Plus, there is a digital LCD temperature control and a 360° swivel cord, so you don’t have to worry about constantly untwisting it, as well as having a built in circuit breaker, an automatic shut off, and sleep modes. Since it has a dual voltage of 110v to 240v, it makes it just that much better. Now lets talk about the pro’s and con’s.
- Performs just like advertised
- Cuts styling time down by half
- No burnt hair smell
- Manages to reach hair roots
- Cools very quickly
- Free bottle of Argan Oil
- Comes with glove and travel pouch
- The price is pretty steep.
Overall this is a great straightener, it does more than you would bargain for without causing a lot of damage to your hair. The price is a bit much, but why sacrifice quality for your hair health. The travel pouch makes it easy to transport and keeps it clean from normal nastiness. Basically, the HSI Professional 1 inch Flat Iron Straightener is a great buy, no matter the price.
Remington s9500 Pearl Pro Flat Iron Review
December 16, 2015
The Remington S9500 Pearl Pro flat iron was created to be used in salons and at home. It’s the perfect flat iron for beginners and people who want to use a highly sophisticated system to tame unruly, coarse and curly hair.
What Are The Features Of The Remington S9500 Pearl Pro
When it comes to well-known beauty styling companies, Remington is highly regarded for its devices. The Remington S9500 Pearl Pro hair straightener comes with ceramic plates that are infused with pearls, not ions, which generate a wet heat that’s ideal for hair.
There are two sizes seen with the Remington S9500:
- 1-inch (good for thin and short hair)
- 2-inches (ideal for hair that’s either very long or thick)
Special Note: the latest model is only found in one-inch.
Since the plates come with pearls, they tend to result in a smoother look than the usual ceramic plates. Hair won’t snag and is effectively straightened. Both sizes are found in black, and it has a thin handle area that allows users to easily maneuver and grip it.
Users can adjust the temperature of the device, which goes up to 450 degrees – by the plus and minus button that can be found next to the power button. It’s got a digital temperature readout and is found at the top of the handle on both models.
What Are The Good Things About The Remington S9500 Pearl Pro
Since crushed pearls are infused onto the ceramic plates, it can result in a smoother look than other ceramic flat irons currently on the market. It’s certainly ideal for people who suffer with snags from other models.
Users can easily adjust the heat, which stays consistent while the hair is straightened. It takes less than 15 seconds to heat up, making it the quickest on the market. Best of all, most hair sections need one pass through to get the healthy hair users crave.
What Are The Negative Things About The Remington S9500 Pearl Pro
One key issue with the Remington S9500 Pearl Pro is that it does have a problem with keeping its heat, especially when it’s turned up high. If you’ve got long hair or thick hair, this may be problematic for you because it may not stay hot enough long enough for you to style your hair.
According to some reports, the plates don’t clamp down well enough, which means you’ll need to use both of your hands to keep the device shut. This can increase the amount of time you spend to style your hair.
Now the 1-inch model has a round body, which is ideal for producing waves and curls. On the bigger 2-inch model, the body is flat and doesn’t have that ability. See how it ranks at best flat irons.
What Does It All Mean?
If you want a flat iron that doesn’t snag your hair and gives it a shiny, styled hair, then you want this Remington model. If it’s on high heat, it’s a little difficult to maintain the temperature, especially true if your hair is cold. However, if you don’t mind waiting several seconds for the heat to come back, then you’ll be blessed with your silky, smooth hair.

How to remove gum from hair
December 16, 2015
This is kind of a silly post, but because of personal experience, I think this is a very important topic especially if you have kids. This happened before with my daughter and I was able to remove most of the gum without having to cut out a chunk of hair.
Peanut Butter Works!
I was a little skeptical when I read that you should use peanut butter to remove gum in hair, but I tried it and it worked. The key is that you will need to use a lot of peanut butter.
Start with a small clump and massage it into the gum. The oils in the peanut butter will help to release the gum from the hair strands. Keep adding peanut butter as needed until the gum is gone. You will then need to shampoo the peanut butter out of the hair.
What About Peanut Allergies?
Obviously, peanut butter is not an option if the person with the gum in the hair has a peanut allergy. Another household item that you can try is mayonnaise. You use the same technique as you would with peanut butter. Mayonnaise may get a little more messy because it’s not as thick as peanut butter, but the oils in mayo should also do the trick of releasing the strands from the gum.
What About Ice?
The next option that you should try before cutting it out would be ice. If you can’t quite get all of the gum out with peanut butter or mayonnaise, then use an ice cube to help freeze the gum. You can then try to break it off or pull it away from the hair. This is not the best option because it will pull out hair if your’e not careful.
If you still have some gum remaining, you will need to use scissors to cut it out, but these methods above should remove most of the gum so that you will only need to cut out a little bit of hair. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
The best flat iron for 2016
December 14, 2015
Hair straightener, also called a flat iron, is a distinctive styling tool that lets you attain the straight hair look you feel only comes from a salon. Heated plates are used to straighten dry hair strands. A superior quality hair straightener changes unruly, curly hair into smooth and straight locks – until you shampoo your hair.
What You Need To Look For In Hair Straighteners
When it comes to hair straighteners, the best flat iron has the latest technology that makes the device so effective. Now, hair straighteners can be extremely expensive, usually exceeding $100. The idea is to pick a straightener that can last and is ideal for your hair length and type. Our site has heaps of flat iron reviews.
Should you choose the wrong kind of flat iron, you could be unhappy with the results you get. It could also cause significant damage to your hair.
With that in mind, you need to know how to choose the right kind of flat iron for your needs:
1 – Plate Material
The majority of hair straighteners have plates that are comprised of:
These materials generate negative ions when heated, helping it to smooth, straighten and seal the hair strands cuticles. Each kind is an advantage to the various types of hair:
- Ceramic Plate Hair Straighteners
- Ceramic hair straighteners have an even heat distribution and high temperatures, ideal for frizzy-free, shiny locks. These ceramic plates are typically more expensive than plates coated with ceramic. However, they don’t cause damage or chipping to the hair. These irons are helpful for nearly all hair types.
- Titanium Plate Hair Straighteners
- These plates have high temperatures and reliable heat. And, they tend to have higher ionic output then what is seen with ceramic plates. These kinds of irons are ideal for coarse, undamaged and thick hair, which is often difficult to straighten out. If you choose irons with titanium plates and have fine hair, use it on the lowest temperature setting.
- Tourmaline Plate Hair Straighteners
- The tourmaline material is infused with either titanium plates or ceramic plates, because it cannot be used alone. Tourmaline is a semi-precious stone that’s crushed up with the other materials, and is best for hair that’s coarse. They decrease the amount of friction while straightening the hair, which causes the ultra-slick locks.
- Metal Plate Hair Straighteners
- The cheapest kind of hair straighteners are ones with the metal plates. They have the ability to flatten wild locks but can cause hair damage. These tend to have an unsteady temperature on the surface, which can lead to hair damage and hot spots. They’re not smooth like the titanium and ceramic plates are, causing friction on the hair as it pulls it between the two plates.
2 – Size Of Plates
Hair straighteners can be found in different sizes. If you’ve got long or thick hair, choose a hair straighteners that have a thick plate such as 1.5-inches or larger. If your hair is short or fine, you need an inch or smaller flat iron.
3 – Temperature Adjustment
Be sure you find and purchase a hair straightener that offers temperature controls. This is especially if you’ve got chemically treated hair, fine hair or damaged hair. High heat can result in split ends and breakage. With temperature control, you can minimize the damage possibility.
Remember, the best flat iron is going to be dependent largely on your type of hair. Therefore, knowing how they work will ensure you get the best look possible.

Help your daughter’s hair not get tangled in the morning
December 11, 2015
Every mother loves her daughter’s hair. It can be so fun to style it and fix it up all nice and cute. What you don’t enjoy is the complete rat’s nest it looks like in the morning when she wakes up, and the subsequent screaming and crying that takes place as you try to brush it out!
Some kids have hair that’s naturally thick and kinky. No matter how you style it at night, she wakes up the next morning with clumps of natural dreadlock on the back of her head. It takes half of the already busy morning to comb it all out so that she doesn’t look like a wild child.
You may be surprised at the huge influence shampooing has on your girl’s rat’s nest hair. If she isn’t shampooing it thoroughly, her hair will not be clean and it will naturally clump together.
Does she just lather it up and rinse it off? You should watch her wash her hair a few times to see if she’s doing it right. If she’s not thorough enough, teach her how to do it right. It could be that she’s too young to be doing it herself already. If so, wait another year or two.
The shampoo and conditioner she’s using also make a big difference. Try switching her shampoo to a brand that’s known for being good at moisturizing. If she has more moisture in her hair, it won’t stick together so much.
Disentangling and De-clumping
After the shower, be extra gentle with her hair. Don’t pull at it when you’re drying it, but gently squeeze it dry. If you’re fighting with her hair, this can cause hair breakages and that means more problems. Squeeze the moisture out like you’re wringing a wet towel dry.
You can also try detangler spray. This is a type of spray that you can buy at the beauty supply store. For most types of detangler spray, you use it on her hair before she goes to sleep.
A new comb may also help. Buy a large-toothed comb with natural bristles. When you’re combing it out, comb from the bottom up. Be gentle when combing it and make sure you don’t break hairs. This will only worsen the problem and lead to more hair health problems.
Tie It Up
One other thing you can try is tying it up. Braid her hair every night or tie it in a bun. Braiding and tying take some time but they might save you time brushing it out the next morning. Other ways to stop her hair from having so much friction with the pillow include getting her a nightcap or switching to a silk pillow.
Give these tips a try and see if they help. You’ll save yourself lots of time combing out that rat’s nest each morning and your daughter will thank you for it!
Protect Your Hair While Sleeping
December 11, 2015
Are you the type of person who goes to bed with no hair out of place but wakes up with a raging mess hanging over your face in the morning? You’re definitely not alone. Many people spend half of their styling time undoing the damage they did while they were sleeping. Here’s what you can do to treat your hair better when you’re sleeping.
Tossing and Turning
You may think it’s your hair type or some special curse that’s been placed on you, but most times, it’s how you sleep that messes up your hair. You might be able to improve the situation by changing your sleeping habits rather than using any products or special techniques.
If you wake up with a mop from hell, you’re probably tossing and turning in your sleep. When you do this, you rub your hair against the pillow, dragging your hair against the pillow fibers.
Tossing and turning means that something’s keeping you from getting the perfect night’s sleep. It could be the position you’re sleeping in, or it could be something more serious, like anxiety or insomnia. As well as using the techniques below to keep your hair together while sleeping, you should also address your sleep issues. Not only will you hair be easier to control, but you’ll feel a whole lot better as well.
Getting Ready for Bed
There are several ways you can prepare your hair before you go to sleep. Probably the best method is to tie your hair up into a braid before you lay down. Braid it as high on your head as possible. It helps even more if you then tie it up into a bun and secure it with an octopus clip.
You might also think about getting a nightcap. Don’t worry too much about how bad it makes you look – you’re sleeping! The whole idea is that the more tightly you secure your hair – with braiding, clips or a nightcap – the less it’s going to be a mess when you wake up.
Combing out the Tangles
When you’re combing out the tangles in the morning, be extra gentle on your hair. You’ll break hairs if you pull too hard. Give it a good brushing and remove as many tangles as possible before you get into the shower.
Products That Might Help
Some companies make detangling sprays that you can use before you go to sleep. These contain all-natural products that help to keep your hair from clumping together during the night.
You should consider buying a silk pillow. This takes some getting used to – you might find your head slipping off of it in the night! Silk doesn’t have the fibers that pull your hair out of place. If you don’t want to get a silk pillow, try draping a silk shawl over the pillow you’re using now.
The best approach is to use a combination of the above. Use detangling spray, tie it up, put on a nightcap and get comfy on your silk pillow. It all depends on how bad the problem is. At least try out a few of these suggestions and see if they help eliminate the problem.
